Independent Educational Consultant
Eighteen years of experience as a public high school counselor has enabled Debra to develop a solid understanding of the everyday life of teens. She knows how busy students and their parents are and how confusing this complex college-related stuff can be. With her broad student-focused background, Debra skillfully guides students in authentic essay writing and discovering colleges they are excited about. Her goal is to help students gain confidence, reduce stress, and have some fun along the way!
Debra is a Certified Educational Planner, the highest level of recognized competence in educational planning through AICEP. Debra earned her College Counseling Certificate from UCLA. She prepared for her licensure in School Counseling at Lewis & Clark College, holds an MA in Education Psychology from University of Colorado at Denver, and a liberal arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. When not working with students or hanging out with her three adult children, she and her two big, furry dogs are routinely off on some form of outdoor adventure.
I am the father of twin girls who just had Debra as their college coach. I also have an older daughter who was not fortunate enough to have this amazing service simply because I did not know about it. In the last year, I saw my daughters transformed as they were gently and mindfully led by Debra through the college application process. With Debra's recommendation they applied to approximately seven colleges and were both accepted at great colleges of their choice. We could not have achieved these results without Debra's help. I highly recommend having her by your side.

Deb, your role is not small! Anders told us that he has gained a number of skills from your coaching and is able to add more tools to the toolbox. We observe he has become a thoughtful researcher, not only looking for info but also digging into data making the slices and dices. More importantly, you engaged him in the whole process, a step-by-step progressive journey leading to the desired outcome. It was accurate, hardworking, timely, responsive, and rewarding - qualities that are essential for Anders to carry out through college and the future life. It is a huge contribution, and we can’t thank you enough for it!
A heartfelt thank you to you, Debra, for your knowledge, organization, follow-up/follow-through, and support of our child to guide him to what I believe is the best mutual fit for him. I am so pleased. You really made this experience smooth, and I am certain, alleviated some of the drama that you may have seen arise in two-household families. You definitely delivered on your two selling points: he received guidance from someone knowledgeable about CURRENT issues and trends; and I got to enjoy my child in his senior year without having to nag him. It is rare to be able to buy time and peace of mind. This was money well-spent. I cannot thank you enough.

Every time I sat down to write a testimonial for Debra, I kept putting it off because my gratitude for her insightful support at this crucial time in my daughter's life (and mine) is so immense that I wasn't sure where to start or how to rein it in. As a parent of a teenager, this was the perfect time for my daughter to be working with and taking advice from someone else - which is a tactful way of saying that having a college coach helping to structure all of the numerous steps needed was an absolute necessity. Debra is experienced in this field, and she is wise as well as kind. Debra is there to support the parents as well as the students from start to finish. This was the very best investment I could have made.
