Wendy Coleman
Independent Educational Consultant Wendy loves to help students believe and trust in themselves in the pursuit of their college dreams. She grew up in Eugene, with the vibrant college town atmosphere woven into the fabric of her childhood. Even back then she was fascinated by higher education and was known to “nerd-out” on the Fiske Guide to Colleges purely for entertainment! She proudly attended the University of Oregon, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. This gave her the foundation for a deeper understanding of herself and others, including the many factors that influence human behavior, motivation and the expression of individual personalities. Understanding people, along with her deep sense of empathy, has laid the groundwork for a long successful career helping youth. After college, Wendy lived in the Bay Area working with adolescents as a crisis counselor, refining her skills in supporting youth to navigate life’s challenges. She later returned to her Northwest roots to pursue a Master of Social Work degree from Portland State University. She has spent the last two decades as a counselor helping youth to identify, reach for and attain their goals, most recently earning her College Counseling Certificate from UCLA. Wendy has a warm, natural and authentic way of establishing rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Being an excellent listener and finding creative ways to encourage teens to express themselves is one of the things she does best. Helping others tell their stories through clear and dynamic writing has been a key part of her work. She approaches each student as an individual. Helping students identify, explore and celebrate their unique strengths in pursuit of their academic dreams is immensely gratifying. Digging into the research to help students find the best-fit college where they will truly flourish is central to her practice. In her free time, Wendy loves adventuring in the woods and finding swimming holes with her husband and two nearly adult children, exploring the food scene, dabbling in photography, and playing with her puppy Goldie! |
"Wendy was a patient and calming App Camp Coach. I would never have gotten as much done if it hadn't been for her essay guidance."
